Bible Study
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.”
- 2 Timothy 3:16
“We open [the Bible] and find that page after page it takes us off guard, surprises us, and draws us into its reality, pull us into participation with God on his terms.”
- Eugene Peterson
It’s our desire here at FPC that you find yourself growing deeper and deeper in relationship to God through His Word. Below you’ll find some of the options that we have for you.
Gourmet Gospel -
We meet on Thursdays 8 pm at Joey and Kate’s to go deeper into the Scripture from the previous Sunday’s Intermission service. We also share dessert, hang out, and generally make mischief. For directions, click on the directions link. Contact jsherrard@fpcstarkville.org for more information.
“How to Read the Bible” Study -
Often reading the Scriptures seems like an overwhelming challenge. The aim of this drop-in study is to take some of the unnecessary fear out of reading Scripture so that we can meet God in His Word. Just bring your Bible and maybe something to take notes on! We’ll meet at 3:30 on Wednesdays in the Union. More details at Intermission or contact jsherrard@fpcstarkville.org.
Women’s College Bible Study
As Christians we turn to our Bible to find answers to life’s questions. We want guidance and become frustrated when we don’t feel God’s answering the specifics of our questions. We wonder how will we go through life and know which choice is the correct choice?! The exciting thing is God DOES give us the tools to make decisions. The book of Proverbs teaches us about the importance of true wisdom! This study will be a discussion format with no take home work. Bring yourself and a friend and any or all of your daily struggles. From boy or family troubles, friend drama, to questioning God. This will be a place of open conversation and learning. The material for the study was modified from a Bible study by Les Newsom (RUF @ Ole Miss) that he modified from Tim Keller’s sermon series on wisdom and the book of Proverbs.
Core Groups -
Core Groups are small gatherings of students who meet once a week with an older, college-graduate member of FPC to share, to study Scripture, and to pray together. We feel that one of the advantages of our ministry as church-based is that we can connect people to the larger body of Christ and the wisdom and friendships that can be found there. Sign-ups are ongoing, but contact jsherrard@fpcstarkville.org for more information.
